These games focuses on modal auxiliary verb use, 'can', through 4 different areas. There is a vocabulary builder and some activities to solidify vocabulary and spelling. There is a section with question and answer listening activities for students to learn how to use the 'can' as an auxiliary verb in conversational activities. The question and answer games and grammar games are associated with the ESL Young Learners Curriculum - Unit 6.
The basic structure for the grammar, question and answer sections are:
A: What can you do?
B: I can dance well.
A: Can he play the piano?
B: Yes, he can./No, he can't.
Other notes:
In the grammar section, students will learn to use auxiliary verbs. The grammar activities for this game use "can" with 'you', 'he' and 'she'.
There is some use of adverbs 'well' and 'fast'. Examples are 'He can swim fast.' or 'Can she sing well?' The ability to swim 'fast' or sing 'well' doesn't affect the game answers, but students may need an explanation.
The listening and conversational games for this activity only use 'you' - 'What can you do?' / 'I can ~.' They are designed as if the character in the picture is actually talking.
